Oldways Engraving  was set up in 2020 by Richard Smith following the closure of Mastergrave Ltd.  

With over 17 years of experience and expertise within the engraving industry, Richard decided he wanted to continue his work within this area and pursue his dream of setting up his own business supporting users of engraving machines. The change in circumstances enables Richard to offer an unrivalled service when it comes to supporting others as well as providing a high quality, professional engraving service.

His fully equipped engraving workshop allows a full engraving service to be offered using a range of methods including carbide, diamond and laser engraving as well as full colour digital print and he has experience working with a huge variety of materials. Work carried out ranges from small gift jewellery to larger scale industrial work, all of which is produced to a  very high standard using the most appropriate machines.

Richard has also undertaken bespoke work, which includes working closely with the client as well as the suppliers to provide a seamless process from start to finish - this can often involve producing templates and jigs which are all specific to the job.  An example of a recent project was to source and produce a metal engraved business card, which included sourcing the material from one of a network of  international suppliers to liaising with UK based contacts to ensure delivering a successful end result.

The wealth of knowledge Richard has gained from working closely with a range of machines means he is able to repair and service most machines, including Roland, Gravograph, Mastergrave and U-Marq models. In addition, Richard also offers artwork production and gets involved with special projects being especially open to new ideas.

Some of his projects have been very close to his personal interests, particularly when it comes to his relationship with Luton Town Football Club! Not only has Richard created a lot of artwork and sporting memorabilia for the clubs players - including match celebration plaques -  but he has also been lucky enough to extend his work to other sports professionals and hopes to continue developing this.
